We are pleased to announce that Eastchester Public Library cardholders, and Friends of the Library who have paid the current year's dues, can now access The New York Times (24 hours, including News, Games, Cooking, Wirecutter, and The Athletic) and The Wall Street Journal (72 hours, not including mobile app access or WSJ+) from anywhere!
All members of the public will be able to access The New York Times News while using a patron computer at EPL, or while connected to our Wi-Fi.
You can bookmark these links:
The New York Times In-Library Use (current page): eastchesterlibrary.org/adult/news
The New York Times Remote Access: eastchesterlibrary.org/news/NYT
Wall Street Journal Remote Access: eastchesterlibrary.org/news/WSJ
You will also be able to access these links from our Download & Stream page at: eastchesterlibrary.org/download
Please note, the in-library access to NYT is News only. To use other NYT "All Access" services -namely Games, Cooking, Audio, Wirecutter, and The Athletic - you will need to visit eastchesterlibrary.org/news/NYT and authenticate with your library card, even if you are physically in the library.
We will of course continue to offer the daily issues of both newspapers (along with The Journal News) for in-library use for those who prefer the print format.
Important:
Your Access to The New York Times:
1. Upon creating your account with The New York Times (myaccount.nytimes.com/register) you will likely be prompted to pay for a subscription at a discounted trial rate. Please remember, it is always free to use New York Times through the library! You do not need to pay for an account or provide a credit card! You may see a screen like this one, you can simply click on "Continue without subscribing" at the bottom.
2. At some point in the setup process, you will be prompted to download The New York Times' mobile app, but you can select Not Right Now. While the access through EPL does support the app, please be aware that NYT uses the app to collect information on your reading habits and your location, and they can share this info with third-party advertisers. NYT actually published an article in 2018 about how to limit the sharing of your data with apps.
Important:
Your Access to The Wall Street Journal
1. Upon clicking our special EPL link at the bottom of this page, you will be prompted to either log in to your account or create a new WSJ account. It should be tied to an email that is not currently subscribed to WSJ or WSJ+.
2. You can uncheck the box at the bottom if you do not wish to receive email updates and "special offers" from Dow Jones. However, you must check the other box which accepts the Terms of Use, Privacy Notice, and Cookie Notice.
3. You will be taken to a screen that will confirm your "Subscription," and you can click "OK, Let's Go" to continue to the WSJ page. You will also receive an email confirmation with the subject "Welcome to the Wall Street Journal."
