The New York Times In-Library: Access Here

Intro: The New York Times & The Wall Street Journal

We are pleased to announce that Eastchester Public Library cardholders, and Friends of the Library who have paid the current year's dues, can now access The New York Times (24 hours, including News, Games, Cooking, Wirecutter, and The Athletic) and The Wall Street Journal (72 hours, not including mobile app access or WSJ+) from anywhere!

All members of the public will be able to access The New York Times News while using a patron computer at EPL, or while connected to our Wi-Fi.

You can bookmark these links:

The New York Times In-Library Use (current page): eastchesterlibrary.org/adult/news

The New York Times Remote Access: eastchesterlibrary.org/news/NYT

Wall Street Journal Remote Access: eastchesterlibrary.org/news/WSJ

You will also be able to access these links from our Download & Stream page at: eastchesterlibrary.org/download

Please note, the in-library access to NYT is News only. To use other NYT "All Access" services -namely GamesCookingAudioWirecutter, and The Athletic you will need to visit eastchesterlibrary.org/news/NYT and authenticate with your library card, even if you are physically in the library.

We will of course continue to offer the daily issues of both newspapers (along with The Journal News) for in-library use for those who prefer the print format.

New York Times Policies - Please Review Before Accessing!

Important:

Your Access to The New York Times:

  • In-library access to News is unlimited and open to all
  • Remote "All Access" will be available for 24 hours.
  • At the conclusion of the 24 hours, you may re-authenticate and log in again!

Creating Your New York Times Account

1. Upon creating your account with The New York Times (myaccount.nytimes.com/register) you will likely be prompted to pay for a subscription at a discounted trial rate. Please remember, it is always free to use New York Times through the library! You do not need to pay for an account or provide a credit card! You may see a screen like this one, you can simply click on "Continue without subscribing" at the bottom.

2. At some point in the setup process, you will be prompted to download The New York Times' mobile app, but you can select Not Right Now. While the access through EPL does support the app, please be aware that NYT uses the app to collect information on your reading habits and your location, and they can share this info with third-party advertisers. NYT actually published an article in 2018 about how to limit the sharing of your data with apps.

Dow Jones Policies - Please Review Before Accessing Wall Street Journal!

Important:

  • You are agreeing to the terms of service which can be found at: dowjones.com/terms-of-use
  • We highly recommend that you read the Dow Jones Privacy Notice at dowjones.com/privacy-notice that governs how Dow Jones will use your information if you connect to WSJ through EPL. While mobile app access is not part of WSJ's public libraries program, Dow Jones and third-party marketing companies can still obtain information about your online activity and target you with advertising. You do have the ability to opt out of some of these marketing communications, and this is spelled out under Your Choices and Rights in the Privacy Notice: dowjones.com/privacy-notice/#h-5-your-choices-and-rights
  • We also highly recommend that you read the Dow Jones Cookie Notice at dowjones.com/cookie-notice. Cookies are another way that your information will be collected and used by Dow Jones if you access WSJ through EPL.
  • To use WSJ through the library, you will need to have (or to create) a WSJ login. This must be tied to an email address that does not already subscribe to WSJ or WSJ+.
  • Per our agreement with Dow Jones: You are not permitted to share the sign-on credentials with any other person. Any violation of this clause will result in Dow Jones terminating access for all EPL users.

Your Access to The Wall Street Journal

  • Your access will be available for 72 hours.
  • At the conclusion of the 72 hours, you may re-authenticate and log in again!
  • Does not include WSJ+ or mobile app access.
  • Please be sure to use the same email address every time you access WSJ through the library! Our plan with Dow Jones is based on unique users, so if you use a different email address it will be counted as another user!

Creating Your WSJ Account

1. Upon clicking our special EPL link at the bottom of this page, you will be prompted to either log in to your account or create a new WSJ account. It should be tied to an email that is not currently subscribed to WSJ or WSJ+.

2. You can uncheck the box at the bottom if you do not wish to receive email updates and "special offers" from Dow Jones. However, you must check the other box which accepts the Terms of Use, Privacy Notice, and Cookie Notice.

3. You will be taken to a screen that will confirm your "Subscription," and you can click "OK, Let's Go" to continue to the WSJ page. You will also receive an email confirmation with the subject "Welcome to the Wall Street Journal."
