Meeting of the Board of Trustees
Eastchester Public Library
May 14, 2025

Present: Robert Cartolano (President), Library Director Tracy Wright, Astra Tudisco, Rosetta McArdle, and Darlene Reda. Councilman Anthony Giacobbe was also in attendance. The meeting convened at 6:34 pm.

The minutes from the April 9, 2025 meeting were reviewed and unanimously approved.

President's Report

President Cartolano discussed the status of Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) Funding, and informed the board that today a federal judge ordered a stay on the Executive Order dismantling IMLS. President Cartolano also discussed the recent dismissal of the Head Librarian of the Library of Congress, noting that the Library of Congress is responsible for innovation and influences how we do business as a public library.

Director’s Report

Director Wright first discussed issues regarding the building exterior, including the need for additional parking spaces for staff and the replacement of three trees around the patio.

Action item: a motion was made to approve two hours comp time for library staff who walk in the Memorial Day parade on Sunday. After discussion, the motion was unanimously approved.

The Friends’ recent book sale was very successful, netting over $8000.

EPL recently purchased Tech-Talk, which provides, among other things, computer instruction and newsletters. The Summer Reading Program will begin at the end of June; EPL is already gearing up.

Director Wright is trying to close out existing grants. SAM grant administrators want EPL to spend more before paying. Discussion was held regarding the possibility of purchasing Meeting Pods and implementation of usage policies for these pods.

The elevator is still making noise. Otis was supposed to come today to assess the issue; Lothrup has not paid them yet. Windows/doors/bathroom projects are all complete.

NYS Aid for libraries, including construction funding, was discussed.

A reception for Marjorie Fox will be held on June 20th, 2025; time TBD. All board members are invited and encouraged to attend.
