Minutes from October 8, 2025 Meeting

Meeting of the Board of Trustees
Eastchester Public Library
October 8, 2025

Present: Robert Cartolano (President), Library Director Tracy Wright, Astra Tudisco, Rosetta McArdle, Lisa Sclavo, Patrick Pilla, Leslye Davidson, and Darlene Reda. U.S. Congressman George Latimer was also in attendance. The meeting convened at 6:37 pm.

The minutes from the September 10, 2025 meeting were reviewed and unanimously approved.

President's Report

WLS is working on the 2026 budget. The IT side is transitioning away from VDI; the cost of subscription services such as Hoopla is being reviewed as part of efforts to decrease costs. There is a question as to the level of funding WLS will receive from Westchester County and NYS.

Director’s Report

On a positive note—the elevator is still working! On another note, EPL’s major supplier of books, Baker & Taylor, is going out of business. Alternate sources, including Ingram and Amazon, are being explored.

Director Wright received approval today on closing out the SAM grants for the window project. The Friends have agreed to match the cost of installing heating in the lobbies. The Friends have also selected carpeting for the Rashkoff Room, hallway, and Book Sale room.

The Jazz Band was terrific, as always; EPL is receiving a lot of positive feedback. NYT and WSJ access for EPL cardholders should be up and running by the end of this week.

ACTION ITEM: A motion to approve an elevator maintenance contract from Otis at a price of $375/month for a period of 5 years was unanimously approved.

Battle of the Books is coming up on October 25th. EPL has two teams who are raring to go! “Staff Picks,” which have proven to be very popular on the adult side, will now be starting for children’s books.

Update from Congressman Latimer

Congressman Latimer discussed the impact of the federal shutdown, noting that the most immediate effect is on air travel. He suggested that if anyone is considering traveling within the U.S., to call the destination points in advance to confirm that they are open. He also welcomed calls to his office regarding questions about federal funding and will assist in whatever way he can to answer people’s questions.
