Present: Robert Cartolano (President), Library Director Tracy Wright, Jim Martin, Astra Tudisco, Patrick Pilla and Darlene Reda. The meeting was also attended by Councilman Anthony Giacobbe and County Executive George Latimer. The meeting convened at 6:33 pm.
The minutes from the January 17, 2024 meeting were reviewed and unanimously approved.
President Cartolano discussed the successful Lunar New Year event held last weekend at EPL. He said it was great to support the Chinese Parents’ Association. About 100 people attended the event, which provided cultural enrichment and entertainment. President Cartolano thanked County Executive Latimer for his support of Westchester County and asked what we can do to encourage cultural acceptance.
The building is coming along. Elevator demo started today; the elevator project should be finished by the beginning of summer. Bathroom bid openings are tomorrow—three companies came and picked up packets for bids. Suburban is working on the water remediation project, which should be finished in a few weeks. All of this work could not have been accomplished without grant funding, including SAM and NYS Construction grants.
Springshare is helpful for scheduling events. Museum pass usage has doubled. Space planning audit begins in March; Director Wright is still waiting on pricing. EPL will connect with WLS and the County to see if bulk pricing can be obtained. Space audit report should take about six weeks. Creative Library Designs provided a proposal for the play area. The cost of portable desks and seating is around $55,000.
Friends of Library agreed to purchase eight new chairs for the library.
Updated trustee handbooks were distributed to all board members. Director Wright reminded the trustees about the two-hour continuing education requirement.
President Cartolano asked how AI can augment library services. How do we demystify AI? Aspen Discovery System could be extended.
