September 25, 2024

Present:  Robert Cartolano (President), Library Director Tracy Wright, Rosetta McArdle, Patrick Pilla, Lisa Sclavo, Leslye Davidson and Astra Tudisco. The meeting was also attended by Councilman Anthony Giacobbe. The meeting convened at 6:37 pm.

The meeting was held in the glass conference room. A quorum was present. The August 7, 2024 minutes were presented, reviewed and accepted. Patrick Pilla moved to approve the minutes. President Cartolano seconded the motion

President's Report

Reminder that Library Trustees are obligated to attend two hours of trustee education requirements on a yearly basis. General discussion about classes attended by trustees. The Director will provide the trustees with website links to obtain credits. The State budget provided $44,000,000 for statewide construction projects. Westchester libraries were allocated $2,077,297. In the past, the grants required a fifty (50%) match. As of August 31, 2024, the grant funds can be higher and it no longer has to be a fifty (50%) match. Additionally, the funds used to have to be used in three years, it can now go to 6 years for the project.

WLS has a new online registration & renewal for library cards. WLS is looking for a new app. The final decision hasn't been made yet.

Director’s Report

The landscaping is completed by the upper level front entrance.

The waterproofing in the elevator shaft is completed.

Otis elevator started the elevator work.

It is anticipated 8 weeks for the elevator.

Water fountains are to be installed in 2 weeks.

The bathroom conversion and updates are underway. They are anticipated to be completed in 4-6 weeks.

We are speaking with Lothrop about a design to modernize the lobby.

Town Hall is still working on finalizing the library budget. The Library had a $9,000 water bill due to a break outside of the Building. The break was located and the repair was completed. The Library stayed in line with the budget, except the water cost was unanticipated.

The library programs have a very busy calendar. Both in person and zoom programs.

The library will be an early voting site at the end of October for 9 days.

October is cyber security month. There is a class on password security and 60 people have registered.

Director Wright presented the SLA Agreement for IT for the library. This program is the computer infrastructure and networking for the library systems staff and public stations. The service line agreement between EPL and WLS is $71,876.67. 3 years of support with incremental increases.

President Cartolano motions to approve the IT service contract for 2025, Rosetta McArdle seconds, all Trustees approve.

Tina Zaccardi volunteered to make and provide the desserts.

There is a book art competition. The art is created out of old books that are to be destroyed. Tiziano Dossena – art exhibit in the Rashkoff Room.

The yard sale is coming up in the Eastchester library parking lot. Bibs and sign up for the Eastchester 5K will be in the Rashkoff Room.

Discussion about a possible open house.

President Cartolano motioned to adjourn the meeting. Patrick Pilla seconded the motion.

Next meeting is Wednesday October 16, 2024 at 6:30PM.
