Present: Robert Cartolano, Patrick Pilla, Astra Tudisco, Tracy Wright
Meeting began at 6:40 pm.
Due to the lack of a quorum, all action items requiring a vote will be postponed until the next meeting of the board of August 7th. Board President Cartolano commented on the news that the New York Public Library would be open on Sundays this summer. He also mentioned the increase in funding for the New York State Library Construction Grant and requested that the director look into whether the painting of the library exterior could be funded by this grant.
The new railing and coping for outside of the upper entrance of the building are expected to be installed by the end of this month. Director Wright reported that she had signed off on the change order to replace the water line piping with piping up to code. The bathroom accessories have been ordered and the handicapped bathroom in the lower lobby of the building will be completed in the next few weeks.
The work on the elevator pit that needs to be finished before Otis installs the new elevator cab will begin by the end of this month. The work which involves drilling in the elevator pit will require that the library shorten its hours for up to a week. It was suggested that the library open in the late afternoon and stay open until 8:30 pm for as many days as need be. Right now, it looks like the library would need to change its hours for at least three days. The budget process for the library’s 2025 budget has begun. As usual, the town comptroller has instructed all to be mindful of the tax cap in submitting any increases in the budget.
A vote to retroactively approve the hiring of three part time employees (Joanne Basile, Valentina Castaldi and John Risi) at an hourly rate of $15.00 will be put to a vote at the August board meeting.
Meeting adjourned at 7:15 pm.
