EPL Board of Trustees TopNav: July 12, 2023 Minutes

Minutes from July 12, 2023

Meeting of the Board of Trustees
Eastchester Public Library
July 12, 2023

Present: Library Director Tracy Wright, Robert Cartolano (President), Rosetta McArdle, Astra Tudisco, Leslye Davidson, and Darlene Reda. Town Councilwoman Theresa Nicholson also attended the meeting.

The meeting was called to order at 6:38 p.m. The minutes from the May 31, 2023 meeting were reviewed and unanimously approved.

President's Report

President Cartolano discussed the high cost of ebooks, noting that some publishers charge more for ebooks than print. Cost is dependent on number of times the book circulates. As a result, public library directors are dealing with strategies around obtaining ebooks.

Director’s Report

Director Wright reported that the library has the funding for the bathroom project, and she is now trying to get it started. She has contacted two architectural firms to get prices for bathrooms as well as space planning services. In terms of design, the plan is to stay within the current footprint; architects may have new ideas. Once again, no bids have been submitted for the elevator replacement project. Lothrup suggested going out to bid again, sending to general contractors rather than elevator companies.

The Friends have withdrawn $20,000 from the Marjorie Fox Trust to be used for the library. Jonathan and Director Wright are looking into website design and management companies as well as some furniture for the Children’s Room.

The Summer Reading Game is in full swing!

All staff email addresses will be changing in July. All trustees should have a library email address to comply with WLS policy; options were discussed. As a reminder, trustees must complete two hours of training each year.
