Present: Robert Cartolano (President), Library Director Tracy Wright, Rosetta McArdle, Jim Martin, Astra Tudisco and Darlene Reda. Councilwoman Theresa Nicholson also joined the meeting. The meeting convened at 6:35 pm.
The minutes from the April 24, 2023 meeting were reviewed and unanimously approved.
The board was treated to a tour of the construction site. Councilwoman Nicholson reported that the Memorial Day parade had a nice turnout. Beginning in the fall, SROs will be in all schools, with costs split between the Town and EUFSD. Lake Isle pool is open! Leewood playground and ballfields are being redesigned and will include four pickle ball courts.
President Cartolano attended the WLS Board of Trustees meeting yesterday. Aspen Discovery system has been rolled out; this is covered through annual dues and will benefit EPL.
Construction is underway. As a result, the library was closed yesterday and opened at 3 pm today. It will also open at 3 pm on Thursday and Friday. No bids were received for the elevator project, which is very disappointing. EPL has not had a working elevator in 15 months. Other construction should be finished by September. EPL is renting a ramp to provide handicapped and stroller access through the patio entrance. Discussion ensued regarding whether to repair or replace the A/C system. We are waiting for Vince so they can get an electrician to look at wiring.
Director Wright and staff have been weeding through books to create space. Donations of old books are tricky because books were purchased with taxpayer dollars. EPL could benefit from space planning services. Director Wright reached out earlier today to Mt. Pleasant regarding their plan. We may be able to ask the Friends for funding.
Looking at maintenance costs and adding buffers for unexpected costs. Already $10K over on the window project.
Long range planning revisions were sent to the Burgers. Rashkoff gallery has really taken off; EPL is receiving lots of booking requests. Director Wright would like to collaborate with the Eastchester Historical Society. She spoke with Tina Zaccardi regarding a fundraiser in October. Town is asking for 2024 budget; word is that patrons would like more hours at the library
Building Committee: See above regarding ongoing projects.
Trustee Martin inquired about the book lift, which is especially needed since the elevator is not working. Need to decide between a lift solely for books or a lift for people.
Trustee Martin suggested getting together to discuss space planning as part of a long range plan. What would we prioritize with an interior designer?
Meeting was adjourned at 7:57 pm. Next meeting is scheduled for July 12, 2023
Respectfully submitted,
