Present: Library Director Tracy Wright, Robert Cartolano (President), Rosetta McArdle, Patrick Pilla, Astra Tudisco, and Darlene Reda. Congressman George Latimer also attended the meeting.
The meeting was called to order at 6:37 p.m. Minutes from the January 8, 2025 and February 12,
2025 meetings were reviewed and unanimously approved.
President Cartolano recently attended the Code4Lib conference at Princeton. Two happenings were derived from this conference: (1) ability to translate text contents of audio and video; and (2) how to apply AI for searches using semantic discovery vs. key word.
Project Gutenberg: library of public domain books; looking to convert e-books with
graphics and alternative text.
There is no new information regarding funding at the state level; we are supposed to hear
updates this week.
Action Item: A motion was made to approve Jonathan Heifetz’s attendance at a library conference in Fairfax, Virginia at a cost of up to $1000.00. After discussion, the motion was unanimously approved.
The heating system is falling apart; it was last renovated about 15 years ago. EPL has already spent about $10,000 in repairs. Further repairs to include replacing the motor and coils are estimated to cost upwards of $21,000.
Action Item: A motion was made to approve emergency repairs to the leak in the boiler room at a total cost of $8800. After discussion, the motion was unanimously approved.
Action Item: A motion was made to approve the payment of $4475 to Performance to replace the Controller Unit. After discussion, the motion was unanimously approved.
Discussion was held regarding a possible construction grant to finance additional work; the grants are typically released in August. Work can start July 1, 2025.
Congressman Latimer discussed the opening of a district office in White Plains. He also described the appropriations process, noting that our project could be eligible. He suggested that he be provided with information regarding current federal grant money received.

Battle of the Books will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Anne Dorner Middle School in Ossining. Volunteers are needed.
